What the National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame newsletter, "The Splash," calls the "heaviest northern pike entered and recognized by the Hall since records program [was] initiated in 1971" was caught March 2, at Fennon Slough, Mont. "Probably the largest northern caught in the U.S. in over 40 years!" proclaims the newsletter. The fish, caught by Russ Hadley, measured 49 inches in length and 24 inches in girth. It weighed 36 lbs., 8 oz., and now tops the record book in the 8-lb. line class. Hadley kept the fish. You can see a photo of this hog at realindy.com
